20th September 2008 is a date I’ll never forget–20082009. It is the day my husband and I registered our marriage. In the evening, we hosted a little party to celebrate this day with our families and relatives. I thought, other than photographs, I would like to give our guests something to bring home to remember this special day. So I quickly recruited Sista and Submerryn for this very first project of making party favors for my party and put it up on Shweez.com!
The party favors that we prepared were fridge magnets.
What do you need to make the fridge magnets like we did?
- A piece of thick paper or manila card
- A few pieces of foam
- A few pieces of tracing paper
- Printed graphics, preferably on photo paper
- Pipe cleaners
- Magnets
- Glue
- Scissors
- Double sided tape (thick)
Let’s get started:
- Take a piece of thick paper, draw the shape of the base of your fridge magnet. Mine is heart shape. Then, cut out the shape.

My heart… - Next, use the shape that you’ve cut out and transfer it onto the foam. Here you can see Submerryn professionally tracing the outline of the Heart onto the foam using a pencil. Then, cut the shapes out.

Submerryn transfering the heart shape onto the foam, then cutting the shapes. - Now that the scissors are in your hands, continue cutting the other stuff.
For me, I had to cut my “Thank you” note, “date”, the cartoon of my honeybun and I, and the pipe cleaners as “legs”.

Sista helping to cut the “Thank you” notes, and me cutting the pipe cleaners.
Us, hard at work. - Then, prepare little “spring” thingy. Use the manila card in Step 1, cut it into strips of about 8-10 mm wide and produce the little springs (we like to call them “doink-doinks”).

Submerryn was in charge of preparing the “doink-doink” springs.
All of the cutting and folding will produce these parts for the party favor:

Now, to combine these parts to make the magnet:
- Stick one end of the “spring” thingy to the back of the cartoon faces. Then, stick the other end of the spring to one side of the Heart.

- Glue the “thank you” note onto the other side of the Heart.

- Glue the pipe cleaners to the back of the “date”. I gave the “date” two legs to stand on.

- The legs of the “date” are glued onto the back of the heart shape as such. Below shows the back view (left) and front view (right) of how the “date” is combined with the Heart.

- Use UHU glue to stick a magnet on the backside of the heart shape.

Tadaa!!! This is the outcome of the fridge magnet party favor for my Registration party. This is the one I put on my fridge.

We made a total of about 70 of these for the party!! Cool huh?

Hey. That looks really lovely. Nice for a Valentine’s Day Gift too.
Wish I had more time. I would do it with the kids.
